The lovely Georgia Zaris is a real life ardent fan of Chelsea FC and in particular of their slippery Italian striker Gianfranco Zola. 'He's not only a fantastic player,' says Georgina. 'He's cute too.' Georgina, 26, grew up in Sydney, Australia, with a father and brother who were both football-mad. Her father is Greek, and Georgina's mother, although as Italian as cute little Zola, quickly learned how to cook Greek food. Georgina still rhapsodises about her mum's Greek cooking. 'She makes yemesta, tomatoes stuffed with rice and peppers and herbs, that are just divine,' she tells me, dreamily. 'My only complaint about living in Chelsea is that it has no decent Greek restaurants.' Georgina is impressively cosmopolitan. She speaks fluent Greek and decent Japanese, having left Sydney when she was 17 to live in Japan. She then moved to America, and then to Dubai, where she worked for nine months as a flight attendant on the Emirates airline. She had a Muslim boyfriend at the time. 'It was a good lesson in living by the laws of the country you happen to be in,' she says. 'I had to study the Koran, and learn not to serve things with my left hand, which is considered an insult because it is the wiping hand. And when talking to a man and his wife, the custom there is not to address the wife at all, which I found pretty tough.' Now that she seems to be settled in London, what, I wonder, are her professional ambitions ? 'Obviously to get into movies,' she says. 'What I would really like is to appear in a remake of What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Either in the Bette Davis part or the Joan Crawford part, I'm not fussy. I'm a bit young, but it's incredible what you can do with make-up.' |
