The 22-year-old actress moved to New York more than a year ago to join the legions of hopefuls who believe that "if I can make it here, I’ll make it anywhere." These hopefuls take all sorts of odd jobs to support themselves as they hop from one audition to the next and wait for their chance at stardom. For now, G doesn’t have to wait on tables or take orders at the McDonald’s counter to pay for the rent. She has saved most of her earnings from her six-year stint in show business to finance her stay in the Big Apple. Part of that money is going to her team which includes an agent, an entertainment lawyer and a publicist. Her sister, who is based in New Jersey, has signed on as manager. That’s how serious she is about hitting the big time. Between auditions, G goes to acting classes, watches Broadway plays, takes yoga lessons -- activities that will help her as an actress. Aside from going to auditions, she attends a lot of parties to meet show biz personalities who can help her out. Once she was late for a movie premiere of the remastered version of "A Hard Day’s Night" and found herself at the same table as Tim Robbins. She has also met Richard Gere, whom she finds drop-dead gorgeous. She got accepted for a TV commercial but she couldn’t do it because her working papers were still being processed. Because of her Caucasian looks, she’s been able to audition for many parts in soap operas and independent movies. She’s even tried out for roles as a Latina. Why New York and not Los Angeles, where most film and TV offices are? "New York is a more vibrant place, it’s more real. I get a natural high when I’m there," G gushes. For the first time in her life, she’s living on her own in a modest apartment. All her life, she’s always stayed with her mom. In the Philippines, she’s recognized everywhere but in her new home, no one fusses over her and that’s just fine. She finds it quite liberating and proudly states that she takes the subway to get around, in contrast to the Honda CRV which she uses in the Philippines. G has not totally abandoned her local career. In fact, just recently, she moved over to Angeli Valenciano’s Genesis, the same outfit that handles Gary V and Donita Rose. For the past three years, she’s worked with Joji Dingcong. "I felt there was so much more we could have done with my career. Joji and I weren’t communicating properly, so I decided to move to Tita Angeli," G explains. She stresses that the transition wasn’t rocky. She and Joji are still friends. G was impressed when she called up Genesis recently and got a computer voice instructing her to press certain buttons to get connected to her party. Angeli stresses that Genesis uses the corporate approach with its talents, so that even if she is not available, there are other capable people in the office to take care of her talents’ needs.
