| Linda Purl was born in Connecticut and raised in Japan, becoming the only foreigner to train at the Toho Geino Academy. At the Imperial Theatre in Tokyo, she played the role of Louis in 'The King and I' (in Japanese), Bet in 'Oliver,' and the role of Helen in 'The Miracle Worker.' She then went to England to study under Marguerite Beale, before returning to the United States to study at the Lee Strasberg Institute, and later with Robert Lewis. Linda's stage credits include: 'Getting and Spending' which recently ran on Broadway at the Helen Hayes Theatre, after a successful run at the Old Globe; Portia in 'The Merchant of Venice' at the Globe Theatre; Nora in 'A Doll’s House' at the Matrix Theatre; She also played Juliet in 'Romeo and Juliet' and Prudence in 'Beyond Therapy' both at the LA Public Theatre; Sandy in 'Grease' and Daisy in 'On A Clear Day You Can See Forever' at the San Bernadino Civic Light Opera; Annie in 'The Real Thing' and Thea in 'Hedda Gabler' at the Mark Taper Forum; Bell in 'Tusitala' with Julie Harris at The Berkshire Theatre Festival; Jane in 'Fallen Angels' at the Olney Theatre; Lucy in 'The Three Penny Opera,' Nora in 'Nora' with Michael York, Mary in 'All the Way Home,' Barbara in 'Johnny On A Spot' (directed by James Naughton) and Wanda in 'The Baby Dance' -all at the Williamstown Theatre Festival. 'The Baby Dance' also played at The Pasadena Playhouse, Long Wharf Theatre and the Lucille Lortel Theatre in New York City. 'John Brown’s Body' at the Lobero Stage Company (directed by Peter Hunt) and Elsa in 'The Road to Mecca' with Julie Harris at The Long Wharf Theatre (directed by John Tillinger). Her television series credits range from Brett Robin in Aaron Spelling’s 'The Robin’s Hoods,' to Charlene Matlock in 'Matlock,' to Ashley Pfister in 'Happy Days,' to Kate in the controversial CIA based series 'Undercover.' Linda has over thirty television and cable movie credits to her name. They include 'Born Free 2' for ABC, 'The Last Days of Pompeii' for ABC (with Sir Lawrence Olivier), 'Accidental Meeting' for USA Cable, Danielle Steele’s 'Secrets' for NBC and 'Absolute Truth.' Her feature film credits include "The Perfect Tenant" with Maxwell Caulfield, due out in early 2000; Disney’s 'Mighty Joe Young'; 'Time Traveler' with Toshiro Mifune; 'Crazy Mama' directed by Jonathan Demme; 'V.I.P.E.R.'; 'Leo and Lorre' produced by Ron Howard; and 'Natural Causes.' Linda has received six Dramalogue BEST ACTRESS Awards and two Dramalogue BEST PRODUCTION Awards as a Producer. She is a three time nominee of the Los Angeles, Drama Critics Circle Award for BEST ACTRESS and was the recipient of the Connecticut Critics Award for OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCE IN A PLAY for 'The Baby Dance.' She is an accomplished singer and has performed her cabaret act at The Rose Tattoo, The Cinegrill, The Gardenia and The Jazz Bakery in Los Angeles, as well as Town Hall and 88’s in New York.
