| A graduate of the Juilliard School, Laura Linney has appeared on Broadway in Hedda Gabler which earned her a l994 Calloway Award, The Seagull, and Six Degrees of Separation. She won a Theater World Award and a Drama Desk nomination for her performance in Sight Unseen. She spent the summer on Broadway in Gerald Gutierrez's Honour with Jane Alexander. Linney received critical acclaim for her role as a tough prosecuting attorney in the suspense thriller Primal Fear (1996), based on a romance by William Diehl, the same author of the Burt Reynolds crime-drama Sharky's Machine (1981), and in Primal Fear she co-starred with Richard Gere and Edward Norton. She also starred opposite Clint Eastwood, Gene Hackman andEd Harris in _Absolute Power(1997)_(qv) as Kate Whitney, the attorney daughter of a master thief (Eastwood). Linney's other feature credits include roles in Lorenzo's Oil, Dave, Searching for Bobby Fischer and A Twist of Fate. Linney's television appearances include the leading role of Mary Ann Singleton in PBS's Tales of theCity. In June, Linney reprised her role as Mary Ann Singleton in Showtime's More Tales of the City. She also starred opposite Joanne Woodward in the Hallmark Hall of Fame presentation Blindspot.Born February 5, 1964 in New York City to a playwright father and nurse mother, Laura studied at Brown University before moving on to Juilliard. Her husband is stage actor 'David Adkins'. Laura once roomed with actress and friend Jeanne Tripplehorn. Despite her memorable roles, her best performance was in Truman Show, The (1998), in which she played with mastery the role of Jim Carrey's wife. Linney has also starred in the acclaimed Love Letters (TV)(1999), once again delivering a terrific job. |
