Children Nicholas Dean Des Barres, born September 30, 1978 Pamela Des Barres has been called the world's most famous groupie, mainly because of her 1987 autobiography, "I'm With The Band: Confessions Of A Groupie," which chronicled her heyday as a Los Angeles groupie in the late '60s through mid-'70s. By her own account, Pamela had a typical childhood in suburban Los Angeles...until, like millions of adolescent girls in the '60s, she was hit by Beatlemania and fell heavily in teenybopper lust with Paul McCartney. It wasn't long before Pamela graduated from kissing pictures of rock stars on her bedroom walls to kissing rock stars in the flesh, as she became a "supergroupie" in L.A.'s music scene. Some of the biggest influences on Pamela's transformation from innocent teenybopper to supergroupie were underground L.A. musician Captain Beefheart, the Rolling Stones (especially Mick Jagger), and Bob Dylan. As Pamela became involved in the Hollywood groupie scene, she encountered several musicians who she would become romantically involved with, including Jim Morrison of the Doors, Nick St. Nicholas of Steppenwolf, Noel Redding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and Mick Jagger. Her first great love affair with a rock star was with Led Zeppelin's Jimmy Page, who romanced Pamela and took her on tour with him but eventually dumped her for a 14-year-old groupie named Lori Maddox. Pamela also feel deeply in love with musician Chris Hillman (best known for being in the Byrds and the Flying Burrito Brothers). Even though Pamela believed for a while that she and Chris were soul mates, their on-again/off-again affair was ill-fated and often hindered by the fact that Chris was usually married when he and Pamela got together. Pamela was also an occasional actress (mostly in B-movies) and a member of the all-girl rock band the GTO's, whose mentor was the late Frank Zappa. The GTO's first and only album, "Permanent Damage," is now considered a collector's item. After a series of short-lived relationships with rock stars and a few other men in the entertainment industry, Pamela's next big love of her life was Don Johnson, who was then a struggling unknown actor. Pamela and Don lived together for several months but that relationship ended when, like Jimmy Page, Don dumped Pamela for a girl who was then barely in her teens: Melanie Griffith (who would later marry and divorce Don twice).
